A beautiful parish church transforms from ‘The Cathedral of the South Downs’ into ‘The Cathedral of Stars’, providing a haunting backdrop for a celestial trip of a lifetime.

On Friday 25 November 2016, at 7.30pm, the beautiful fourteenth century parish church of St Andrew’s, Alfriston, East Sussex, will transform from ‘The Cathedral of the South Downs’ into ‘The Cathedral of Stars’, providing a haunting backdrop for a celestial trip through the wonders of the cosmos.

I have worked my magic worldwide as a motivational speaker for select clients in corporate team-building events and for theatre audiences numbering 2000+, but this event in St Andrew’s Church, is a first! My mission? To raise funds for the Church’s much-needed restoration using my infectious enthusiasm for the planet and the science of astronomy! Why not join me and be captivated by the cosmos too?

I'm now an author, presenter, broadcaster, registered schools speaker and resident astronomer for BBC Sussex & Surrey Radio. I began my career in business and was initially head-hunted for a career at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. But I refused to be tied to the proverbial desk, and instead went to sea and became a senior officer for sixteen years with a leading British cruise line. This is where my love for astronomy began and, armed with a degree in astronomy & planetary sciences, I swapped nightly cocktail parties for astronomical tours and lectures.

I was co-presenter of the pioneering theatre show Tour of the Universe - a national tour that included the presenters of BBC television's Sky at Night programme and other high-profile guests. This was described by Professor Chris Lintott as 'a first and a triumph'.

I have also been a guest on BBC Radio Four Midweek, BBC Two's Stargazing Live and national and regional radio. I was invited to be the Inaugural Speaker for the Sir Patrick Moore Memorial Lecture at Holmewood House School, the school where Sir Patrick himself taught for eight years. I have been featured in various astronomy publications and scripted a live television/theatre interview with the second man on the moon, US astronaut Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin.

‘Jane Green, who has given lectures in many parts of the world, clearly appreciates that astronomy is a science open to everybody.’ Sir Patrick Moore, CBE FRS

Dr Brian May states that Jane has “... taken up the challenge of doing for a new generation what Sir Patrick Moore did for us all those years ago”.
