In 1767, William Herschel was appointed Bath's Director of Music. The William Herschel Museum is celebrating the 250th anniversary of this event with an exhibition about the musical life of Bath when the Herschels lived and worked there.

William Herschel came to England to work as a musician; his success and that of his sister, Caroline, in the lively music scene of eighteenth century Bath is celebrated in an exhibition at the Herschel Museum of Astronomy in Bath from 10 April to 10 December 2017.

Jubliate covers the Herschels' musical activities, displaying scores, instruments and coverage in the social media of the day – the Bath Chronicle. It includes the acrimonious correspondance in the Chronicle about William's appointment, and notes about the concerts at which Caroline often sang.

The Museum together with Bath Spa University are also organizing a series of concerts and events in which student actors will portray the Herschels in recreations of events from their musical activities in Bath. See the Herschel Museum of Astronomy website for more details and for the opening times etc.
